Sam's Journey
We are often privileged to receive stories of our amazing Funkita customers striving towards their goals and achieving extraordinary things. However, the story and outlook of 27-year-old Australian, Sam Pratt has blown us away. Sam has recently had her leg amputated and, as a result, contacted us to request some of her favourite Funkita prints to be incorporated into her prosthetic leg.
After Covid, Sam wanted to get back into sport to replace her earlier years of swimming training. While playing a social basketball game she fractured her foot which resulted in a rare complication.
“For more than 2 years I couldn’t touch, move or walk on my foot,” said Sam.
There was no relief for Sam and the only outlet to deal with the pain and frustration was to return to the pool to paddle. She would take her 'trusty' Funkitas to wear and brighten the water.
“I absolutely love the fit and colours, they are amazing.”
With no treatment or relief for Sam, when the opportunity for amputation came along, she took it in a heartbeat. To celebrate, she went to the pool for a swim.
“I felt so happy and free.”
Sam is now awaiting her prosthetic leg and selected the prints Dye Hard, Lake Acid, Cumulus and Dripping Paint to be included in the leg.
With the Paralympics underway in Paris, it may strike a spark for the future in Sam to train towards LA2028.
We love to be part of Sam's story and as Sam said, encourage and share the experiences and activities of athletes from a range of abilities and not just those at the elite level.
All the best on your journey Sam! We love that we can Brighten The Journey together.
